About

About Michael Cox

Hi I am Michael, graduating with a Masters degree from University College Of Osteopathy formally The British School of Osteopathy, widely recognised as the leading provider of Osteopathic education in Europe

Originally from WA, I went over to the UK for a holiday and ended up staying for 15 years. This was when I discovered the joys of Osteopathy.

Eventually coming to Margaret River to pursue a more relaxing, sunnier lifestyle and being beautiful place to live.

When not treating patients, I enjoy spending time diving, bushwalking, camping, hiking, volleyball, the beach, and occasional gym, also wanting to learn how to surf again. When I want to wind down yoga and meditation or just getting out into nature.

Oh, how could I forget, spending time with my two troublesome Dachshunds Trixie and Deedee, if you see us around then say Hi.

What is Osteopathy
Classical
Osteopathy
Cranial / Biodynamics

Osteopathy has its origins in USA and was developed as a holistic manual treatment method by Dr Andrew Taylor Still from 1874. Since then, Osteopathy has established itself alongside traditional medicine in the USA and many parts of Europe and Australia.

The aim of osteopathy is always to activate your own self-healing powers and thus to find your way back to your own health. The human being is always viewed as a unit and not just as a single part of the body, such as a back or a foot.

It is assumed that structure (how something is set up) and function (how something works) influence each other and thus not only symptoms are treated. Blockages or restrictions in function can arise from various stresses and life situations. These include, poor posture, physical and emotional stress, accidents, sporting and general injuries, repetitive movements.

Classical Osteopaths see the relationship between body mechanics and health: in which the purpose is to find a neutral position. When balanced you will to recover faster from injury or illness.

Body tissues need certain things to be healthy, like good blood flow, lymphatic drainage and nervous innervation. Osteopathy views disease as adaptation occurring when these needs are compromised by disharmony of body structure or function.

Treatment aims to improve your body’s relationship with gravity and promote integrated function between body tissues and systems. The body is relaxed through gentle rhythmic movements and adjustments.

Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle holistic approach influencing the central nervous system, calming cranial fluid flow and rhythm within the entire body. Essentially it can be used to treat people of all ages.

A Cranial osteopath will gently tune into the your body’s natural self-healing mechanisms to release any unwelcome strains, enabling for a homeostatic balance to be restored.

Sometimes this form of therapy can affect the patient on a deeply spiritual and emotional level, with treatment lasting several days as the body continues to heal itself.

Fascial Counterstrain FSC

"FCS utilizes diagnostic tender points to identify painful, reflexively protected and contracted tissues. Reflex tissue contractions occur in the body’s deep fascia layers, skeletal muscle tissues and or smooth muscle structures in response to a variety of mechanical or chemical insults.

Examples include trauma, surgery, postural strain, repetitive motion, infectious or viral conditions, even secondary to a long-term inflammatory diet.  This form of reflex muscular dysfunction, once present, can contribute to a multitude of symptoms and conditions." www.counterstrain.com

As part of ongoing learning Michael is utilising FSC techniques more though the treatments. If you would prefer a particular treatment style, you can discuss this with Michael.
